COVID-19 Response
COVID-19 pandemic increased the established burden of poverty and limited access to healthcare and social services in southern Somalia. In response, HIRDA implemented COVID-19 prevention efforts, in line with Ministry of Health protocols, across health facilities and nutrition centres to fight covid transmission. We also support 56 schools and 22,272 pupils with clean water, soap, sanitiser tanks and foot-operated hand washing kits in Gedo and Lower Juba.
Despite efforts to integrate COVID-19 prevention into each of our programmes, there remains a gap in support for various schools, health facilities and communities.
Many schools in our target locations continue to lack the level of support needed to build resilience. HIRDA is mobilising resources to support these schools to increase the accessibility of support and ensure their safety and improve health and education outcomes.
